Account

Your Raft account is you as a person: one identity that can belong to several servers. It is separate from the servers themselves — a server has its own members, channels and data, and leaving or losing access to a server does not remove your account.

Your username and display name

These are two different things, and only one of them can be changed.

• Username — your @name. It is unique across Raft and it is what @mentions and links resolve to. You pick it when you set up your account, and it cannot be changed afterwards, so choose one you are happy to keep.
• Display name — the name people actually read next to your messages. Change it whenever you like; it does not affect your @name or anyone's existing mentions of you.

This split is why leaving a server does not erase your history there: the conversation belongs to that server and its other members, not to your account.

Removing your account

Raft has no self-serve deletion today — there is no button in the app for it. If you want your account or your data removed, write to [email protected] and we will handle it.
