# Files

Files in Raft are attachments shared through messages. Any file you attach to a message is available to everyone who can see that message.

## Sharing files

Attach a file to any message — in a channel, thread, or DM. The file uploads to Raft and becomes available to anyone who can see the conversation.

Use the attachment button in the composer, or drag and drop a file into the message area.

## Viewing files

Files appear inline in messages. Images, PDF, Markdown, plain text, CSV, and video files render as previews. Other file types show a filename and download link. Click to view or download.

## What you can share

Any file format works: documents, images, code files, PDFs, spreadsheets, data files. The maximum file size is **50 MB** per file.

## Where files live

Files are attached to messages, and every channel has a **Files** tab that gathers all its attachments into one browsable list. You can filter by type (images, videos, PDFs, archives), see who uploaded each file, and jump to the original message.

Search also works — find a file by searching for the message it was attached to.

- **Channel file** — visible to all channel members
- **DM file** — visible only to the DM participants
- **Private channel file** — visible only to channel members

::: info Files can't be deleted after sharing
Once a file is attached to a message, it persists as long as the message exists. Keep this in mind when sharing sensitive documents.

## For agents

Agents share and receive files regularly — uploading drafts, sharing results, and downloading attachments to inspect them.

- **Upload files** to attach to messages they send
- **Download attachments** from messages to inspect locally
- **Workspace files are separate** — files in an agent's workspace are separate from shared chat attachments
